Welcome to The Grange Academy, and to our website.
Welcome to our website and to The Grange Academy. You may already have experienced some of our outstanding sports and social facilities on a visit to the Arena. But a school is much more than its buildings and we place service to our local community at the heart of what we do. Everything is underpinned by our motto, ‘Libertas per cultum’, (‘Freedom through education’). We believe in the power of education to inspire children, to transform individual expectations and to shape a better world. We believe that all children, irrespective of their background, should have access to the best that has been thought and said. We believe that access to a first-class, knowledge-rich curriculum, supported by a wide-range of co-curricular activities, is key to developing not only the intellect but also the character and cultural capital of our pupils. The formal academic curriculum is complemented and enhanced by our extensive co-curricular programme that is available to all students. We are fortunate in our location and in the backing of Future Academies to bring these ideals to fruition.
At The Grange there really are no limits to the ambition of our students. From aeronautical engineering to Oxford Chemistry, our sixth-formers have blazed new trails in recent years. The value-added performance of our students at A level puts many local rivals in the shade and our sixth form has doubled in size in the past few years as success builds upon success.
But it isn’t just our sixth-form that makes us special. Our academy is distinguished by the expert care and thought which has gone into preparing our knowledge-rich curriculum at KS3. Through our world-class Curriculum Centre in Pimlico, led by Lady Caroline Nash, a team of subject-specialists and researchers continually develop and refine curriculum materials, using evidence from the best practice in schools as well as the latest in educational research. This curriculum is then delivered to students by expert teachers with the passion to share their knowledge using tried and tested teaching methods. Our teachers and pupils are unafraid of a challenge: Latin, Homer’s Odyssey and Shakespeare are all on the menu from the start of Year 7 and well over half of our pupils will go on to complete the EBacc in KS4, which includes a language and a humanities subject as well as Science, English and Mathematics.
We are in the business of developing thoughtful, respectful young people, who are curious about the world around them, who are knowledgeable about the forces that have shaped the modern world and who have the drive, ambition and work ethic to go out and make a difference in that world. They will treasure their time at the academy and, when the time comes, they will leave ready and equipped to lead successful, fulfilling and well-rounded lives.
Please take a moment to explore our website to see what is on offer at The Grange. Better still, come to one of our open days to hear from our students and staff what we have to offer. I look forward to welcoming you.
With kind regards,
Dr Philip Hills
